There was a lengthy questionnaire that I think was intended to weed out people who are hobbyists or are truly big-time studios. It was an interesting mix of questions, and I answered honestly. I fully expected to be rejected.
Instead, I got accepted.
Now. I am familiar with the inner workings of Amazon because I spent 9+ years there. Though not in a category-driven job, I know what kind of work goes into launching something like this. And when I got accepted I thought what the heck- it’s an opportunity to learn. I created several listings -not my entire inventory- and made them live on Amazon today. I put my Etsy shop on vacation. I’m not selling much there but I didn’t want there to be an “OOPS! Sold on both sites” moment.
I need to be on Amazon for awhile to see what, if anything comes of it. It will be interesting to update as time passes. I know the fees structures are different on Etsy vs Amazon, and probably more at first glance. Also, I’m not really sure Amazon -even with its awesome built in audience- is a great fit for artists. But again time will tell and they could surprise us all.
